Eric’s Story
Hi, I’m Eric Volkin, a Massachusetts-born artist with roots that run deep in creativity. My earliest influences came from my mother and aunt, both of whom painted in oils and acrylics. I was naturally drawn to watercolors from a young age, especially during summers spent on Cape Cod painting seascapes at my grandmother’s cottage.
My appreciation for the arts really took shape while I was attending Jacksonville University in Florida during the 1980s. In the early 1990s, I continued my artistic education at Massachusetts College of Art, also known as MassArt. There I explored a variety of mediums including watercolor, pencil, charcoal, and pastel. I focused on understanding how each one felt on paper, and how to work with them to create different effects and levels of control.
Eventually I chose a more self-guided path, learning from master artists while continuing to grow through personal study and exploration. I have been active in the art scenes across Boston, Canton, Cambridge, Arlington, and now most recently in Framingham.
In addition to being an artist, I am also a massage therapist, a quality assurance specialist, a musician, and a current member of the Framingham Cultural Council.
Joining the Mill Contemporary Art community has revitalized my passion for creating. Studio 41 is where my newest work is coming to life with fresh perspective and energy. I’m excited to continue building with the creative community here and to keep exploring new ideas, techniques, and conversations through art.
